Monolayer Semiconductor Quantum Dots for Efficient Energy Conversion

چکیده
The goal of this NU-Argonne collaborative project is to explore quantum confinement in atomiclayer semiconductors. Quantum confinement in three-dimensional semiconductor crystals has improved energy conversion efficiency in nanocrystal quantum dot solar cells [1]; translating this approach to two dimensional (2D) materials can offer similar absorption enhancement with higher energy absorption density [2] while simultaneously reaching a fundamental atomic lower limit of parasitic charge transport length in thin-films.

SILAR Sensitization as an Effective Method for Making Efficient Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cells
CdSe quantum dots were in situ deposited on various structures of TiO2 photoanode by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR). Various sensitized TiO2 structures were integrated as a photoanode in order to make quantum dot sensitized solar cells. High power conversion efficiency was obtained; 2.89 % (Voc=524 mV, Jsc=9.78 mA/cm2, FF=0.56) for the cells that sensitized by SILAR meth...

Colloidal semiconductor quantum dots have three-dimensional confined excitons with large optical oscillator strength and gain. The surface plasmons of metallic nanostructures offer an efficient tool to enhance exciton-exciton coupling and excitation energy transfer at appropriate geometric arrangement. Here, we report plasmon-mediated cooperative emissions of approximately one monolayer of ense...

The comparison of growth processes and fluorescent properties of CdZnTe semiconductor quantum dots that are synthesized in different concentrations of Zn2+ in water are discussed in this paper. The samples are characterized through absorbtion (UV) and photoluminescence spectra (PL). The results show that when the reaction time is prolonged, the absorption peak and fluorescent emission peak pres...

Solid-state energy conversion technologies such as thermoelectric and thermionic refrigeration and power generation require materials with low thermal conductivity but good electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient, which are difficult to realize in bulk semiconductors. Nanostructures such as superlattices, quantum wires, and quantum dots provide alternative approaches to improve the soli...
